Wild beat Rangers 3-2

Frédérick Gaudreau scored the game-winning goal in the third period and the Minnesota Wild defeated the New York Rangers 3-2 on Friday night after the ceremony that saw Henrik Lundqvist’s jersey number retired.

Kevin Fiala and Mats Zuccarello — a former Rangers player — each had a goal and an assist to extend their streak with at least one point to 10.

Cam Talbot — a former backup at Lundqvist for two seasons — stopped 25 shots for the Wild. The formation of Minnesota triumphed for the seventh time in eight games (7-0-1).

Chris Kreider extended his lead as the NHL’s leading scorer with his 31st goal of the season for the Rangers.

Barclay Goodrow also hit the target for Rangers. Igor Shesterkin stopped 31 shots in the loss.

Lucas Raymond breaks shootout stalemate

Lucas Raymond scored the only goal in the shootout and the Detroit Red Wings beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-2 on Friday night.

Filip Zadina and Givani Smith hit the target in regulation time for the Red Wings, who snapped a three-game losing streak.

In his second start of the campaign, Calvin Pickard stopped 36 shots and was perfect in front of all three Penguins shootout attempts.

Jake Guentzel threaded the needle for the Penguins, who suffered a second loss in as many days after going on a six-game winning streak. Pittsburgh are 17-2-2 in their last 21 games.

Casey DeSmith blocked 30 pucks for the Penguins, who had at least one point in their eighth straight game (6-0-2) and in their 10and consecutive at home.

In the shootout, Raymond beat DeSmith on the Red Wings’ first attempt. Pickard closed the door on Guentzel, Sidney Crosby and Kris Letang.

The Capitals easily afford the Stars

Nicklas Backstrom scored a goal and added an assist, Vitek Vanecek stopped 30 shots for his second shutout of the season and the Washington Capitals defeated former teammate Braden Holtby and the Dallas Stars 5- 0, Friday evening.

Trevor van Riemsdyk, Tom Wilson, John Carlson and Connor McMichael also rocked the ropes for the Capitals. Evgeny Kuznetsov had two assists.

Holtby allowed five goals on 22 shots before being replaced early in the third period by Jake Oettinger, who made two saves. Holtby faced the Capitals for the first time in his career. He played for the Capitals in his first 10 NHL seasons.

The Stars, who retired Sergei Zubov’s number before the game, saw their four-game winning streak come to an end.

The Avalanche sign a 9and straight win

Gabriel Landeskog scored twice on the power play as the Colorado Avalanche prevailed 6-4 against the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday night for their ninth consecutive win.

The Western Conference leaders extended their streak with at least one point to 15 (14-0-1). They survived the thrilling endgame thanks to goals from JT Compher and Alex Newhook and then Nazem Kadri and Cale Makar into an empty net.

Patrick Kane and Brandon Hagel each scored twice for the Blackhawks, who trailed 3-0 early in the third period. Dylan Strome had two assists.

Pavel Francouz stopped 39 shots for the Avalanche, who are tied with the Florida Panthers for the top of the NHL standings with 65 points.

Marc-André Fleury made 21 saves for the Blackhawks.
