Freshness under the sun | Three Matcha Frozen Delights

Matcha is gaining more and more followers in its frozen form. We visited three Montreal establishments that prepare ice cream or cold drinks with this Japanese tea, whose apple green hue lends itself particularly well to the summer season.

Noble Café Matcha Float

At Le Noble, you have the choice of eating your float with cold brew or matcha.

We come to the Noble Café for its excellent drinks, but in the summer, the small establishment on Laurier Avenue East has an additional attraction: its soft serve ice cream. The owners decided to unite these two main forces in a frozen dessert, the float, served with cold brew coffee or… matcha. If the first is more classic, the second offers a very special touch of color between two spirals of vanilla ice cream. To be enjoyed at the original location or at the Mile-Ex location on Alexandra Street.

The cereal bar in Little Burgundy, already known for its colorful plates, has an equally invigorating drink on the menu: Elle & Jane. It is simply a lavender syrup accompanied by matcha, served with cold milk. A judicious mixture, since the lavender softens the already quite pronounced taste of the matcha. And why this intriguing name, by the way? We give you a thousand: the Elle & Jane is the neighboring shop, and the owners of the Barley simply wanted to pay homage to it!

Soft matcha ice cream from Sachère

  • Matcha is one of Sachère's favorite ingredients. It was therefore natural for it to become a flavor of its ice creams.

At Sachère Desserts, in addition to its pretty pastries, they serve soft ice cream during the summer. True to the Asian inspirations of the place, the matcha ice cream is a must. Japanese tea is also a flavor that is found in many of his creations, from tartlets to mounted cakes and biscuits, where matcha is married with white chocolate. Since the flavor of soft ice cream changes every week, it will be a while before the matcha makes its appearance again. To find out when, follow the Instagram account!
