It was Valentin Ferron (Total Energies), 24, who won Friday in Gap at the end of the 6th stage of the Critérium du Dauphiné which counted 196.4 km, the longest of the eight stages of the race this year. The cyclist from Isère embarked on a breakaway in his department… After resisting the peloton with his breakaway companions, he placed a decisive acceleration just after the red flame to offer the TotalEnergies team a second victory this week, after the success of Alexis Vuillermoz at Brives-Charensac.
Pierre Rolland (B&B Hotels-KTM) and Warren Barguil (Team Arkea-Samsic) completed the day’s podium. Wout van Aert (Jumbo-Visma) retains the yellow jersey.
“It’s a great satisfaction”
After getting out of the saddle and savoring his victory, Valentin Ferron said on arrival: “Every day we hope to win races, but in a World Tour event, it’s exceptional. You have to savor it. In a career, there won’t be many. It’s a big satisfaction. It was a good breakaway, with solid guys in front. I knew I wasn’t the best in the sprint. I saw a little timeout moment, I squirted and put it all to the line. And it did. It’s great. It’s a really special feeling to win here.”
