This is the end of the story between Esteban Ocon and BWT Alpine F1 Team. The French team announced, in a press release published Monday June 3, that it was parting ways with the French driver, with whom it had been working for five years, at the end of the Formula 1 world championship season.
An expected decision as relations between Esteban Ocon and his team have weakened in recent weeks. After the collision between the Norman driver and his teammate, Pierre Gasly, at the start of the Monaco Grand Prix on May 26, Bruno Famin, the director of Alpine Motorsports, announced, on Canal+, that he would have to “to cut to the chase”. It’s now done.
Arriving in 2020, Esteban Ocon participated in 91 Grands Prix with the French team, winning the Hungarian Grand Prix in 2021. He also scored two other podiums, at Sakhir in 2020 and at Monaco in 2023.
For its part, Alpine indicated that it would later announce “the team for the 2025 season”. The departure of Esteban Ocon, however, opens an extension opportunity for Pierre Gasly who is reaching the end of his contract with the French team in 2024.
