Frenchman David Gaudu wins the 3rd stage

David Gaudu of the Groupama-FDJ team won this Tuesday during the 3rd stage of the Critérium du Dauphiné in Chastreix-Sancy, drawn on the roads of the departments of Haute-Loire and Puy-de-Dôme. He is ahead after 169 kilometers of the Belgian Wout Van Aert in the sprint at the top of the last climb (the Jumbo-Visma team sprinter raising his arms too soon and being passed on the line). Frenchman Alexis Vuillermoz (TotalEnergies) lost the leader’s yellow jersey, recovered by Wout Van Aert.

Three men could hope to win this third stage, Jonas Wilsly (Uno-X), Pierre Rolland and Sebastian Schönberger (B&B-KTM), escaped until the last kilometers, before giving up on the final climb to Chastreix-Sancy, under the impetus of Jumbo-Visma and TotalEnergies. Failing to have won the stage, Pierre Rolland confirmed his best climber’s jersey of the Criterium.

The Critérium du Dauphiné continues this Wednesday, June 8 with an individual time trial of 31.9 kilometers between Montbrison and La Bâtie d’Urfé.
