French tests “made in France” will be adapted to the Quebec context

Immigration Minister Christine Fréchette agrees that French tests for immigrants need to be “better adapted” to the Quebec context, but she does not intend to demand that these exams be designed in Quebec.

“At the very least, the tests should be better adapted to the Quebec context. There are references to Quebec that have already been introduced in several of the standardized tests. We want it to continue as a job, ”said the minister on Wednesday during question period.

She was questioned by Member of Parliament Ruba Ghazal, of Québec solidaire, about a case of the Duty which reveals the pitfalls of immigration testing. These are designed in France and are full of European references.

Minister Fréchette refused to commit to entrusting the production of the tests to a Quebec organization, as Ms.me Ghazal. “We will continue to carry out these analyzes until they are complete, and we will see what the courses of action are,” she said.

“Good luck asking French people to adapt the test to our Quebec reality with our Quebec accent. I can’t wait to see that, ”replied his supportive vis-à-vis ironically.

Oppositions want change

In the morning, the opposition parties urged Quebec to do better. “It is time for these tests to be reviewed,” said André Fortin. “I think we are able to provide [aux immigrants] a much better welcome and to present our language to them from a very different angle. »

“Frankly, French tests for immigrants should be done in Quebec,” said Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois, of Quebec solidaire. “To properly measure an immigrant’s integration into Quebec French, you need Quebec tools. François Legault presents himself as the knight of the French. It’s hard, there, to use tests made in France. »

In the Parti Québécois, MP Pascal Bérubé said the tests should be “adapted to our reality”. “And we have expertise for that,” he said.
