French swordsmen champions of Europe: a great double for Guadeloupean Luidgi Midelton before the Olympics

A new gold medal for Guadeloupean swordsman Luidgi Midelton. With the French fencing team, he has just beaten Italy in the final of the European team championships. This is the second major title in two days for the 25-year-old who has once again proven that he is currently one of the fittest shooters on the French team.

The French swordsmen returned to the title of European fencing champion on Saturday in Basel for the first time since 2016, when they won the Olympic gold medal in the process.
Even undermined by dissension and deprived because of an injury to its leader Yannick Borel, the Blues of the sword outclassed (45-24) the Italian world champions in a revenge of the world final in Milan last summer .

Luidgi Midelton, definitely, will not have made the trip to Basel for nothing. Already crowned individual European champion last Thursday, the 25-year-old from Guadeloupe also brought back team gold from Switzerland, won this Saturday with Romain Cannone, Paul Allègre and Alexandre Bardenet. Luidgi Midelton’s two victories can only confirm the choice of Gauthier Grumier, general manager since the resignation of Hugues Obry, a few weeks before the Paris 2024 Olympics.
