French rugby players Hugo Auradou and Oscar Jegou, charged with rape last week in Argentina, will be placed under house arrest, franceinfo learned this Wednesday from their French lawyer, confirming information from The Team.

Their request, which had been requested by the defense, was accepted by the Mendoza prosecutor’s office in Argentina. They had been detained until then. Their lawyer, Me Antoine Vey, contacted Wednesday evening by franceinfo, said “relieved” by this decision of the Argentine justice: “Their defense is really going to be able to start from now on. In prison, their defense conditions would have been very difficult.”.

“The Argentine justice system fortunately considered that the players and their families were sufficiently credible to place them under house arrest.he greeted. She gives them credit for saying that there is no risk of flight and that they intend to answer questions from the Argentine justice system.”.

Hugo Auradou, 20, and Oscar Jegou, 21, were arrested on July 8 in Buenos Aires, two days after the French XV match against Argentina in Mendoza where the acts reported by the 39-year-old complainant were allegedly committed. On July 12, they were charged with aggravated rape, as it was committed in a group, and face eight to 20 years in prison if found guilty at trial.

Both players admit to having sexual intercourse with the complainant, claim that it was consensual and deny any form of violence.
