The lawyers of French rugby players Oscar Jegou and Hugo Auradou will file a request on Monday, August 19, for a dismissal of charges for their clients, who have been charged with rape, franceinfo learned from Antoine Vey, the French lawyer for the two players, confirming information from Le Parisien.

The request comes a few days after the two players were released on Monday, August 12, almost a month after their arrest. “sufficient evidence has not been gathered” to justify their continued preventive detention, the Mendoza prosecutor’s office had estimated. As long as the investigation continues, the two players must remain in Argentina.

A 39-year-old Argentinian woman accuses the two 21-year-old players of raping her in a hotel room in Mendoza, 1,000 km from Buenos Aires, after a drunken evening in a bar where players from the French national team were partying.

Since the start of the investigation, the two 21-year-old rugby players have admitted to having sexual intercourse, claiming that it was consensual and denying rape.
