French political life at the level of children

What does a president do? Can he decide everything? What does he do with his days? Why is there no female president? These are the questions answered by the podcast “PoilitiKIDS: the president”, a collection to be found on all platforms and on the billythecast.com website.

Intended for 8-12 year olds, it explains the stakes of the presidential election. A 12-year-old girl, Aelwenn, interviews journalists Renaud Dély and Agnès Barber, who answer her in a very educational way, punctuated by humorous sketches and extracts from real life. “It’s a form of initiation into politics. It’s intended to be quite civic and fun”, details on franceinfo Renaud Dély.

“Personally, I was already passionate about politics when I was eight years old. At that age, we see these characters moving around on the screen, talking, whether on TV, on the radio or on social networks Children hear well these formulas ‘I am a candidate, I will be the President of all French people’“, specifies the political columnist to listen to every morning on franceinfo. “So I think that obviously it interests them, it questions them. They are curious. And then, later, they will become voters”, specifies Renaud Dély, who had never before addressed a young audience.

It was Julien Moch, a long-time journalist at franceinfo, who had the idea for this podcast produced by his company “Billy the Cast”: “We are far from the only ones to have had this idea! But there are several ways to do it and the idea was really to do things simply at the height of children. We wanted this is a timeless series. That’s why we don’t talk about the candidates or the current campaign. The children ask themselves basic questions and it’s also important for us, adults, it allows us to put our ideas back in place ” , concludes Renaud Dély.
