French personalities commit in support of Iranian demonstrators

About fifty French artists filmed themselves cutting a lock of hair, in support of Iranian demonstrations against the power in place. The protest arose following the death of Mahsa Amini, killed by police for improperly wearing her veil.

“For Freedom”, launches Juliette Binoche, a chisel in hand. About fifty French artists cut themselves, in video, a lock of hair on the music “Bella Ciao”, quite a symbol. Among them, Isabelle Adjani, Marion Cotillard, Isabelle Huppert, Jane Birkin accompanied by her daughter Charlotte Gainsbourg, or Angèle. A video published in solidarity with Iranian demonstrators who have been protesting for three weeks against the power in place in Iran.

“It’s a video that’s not against the veilconfides the actress Isabelle Carré. We have the freedom to wear it, but we must have the freedom not to wear it.” The gesture was born the day of the funeral of Mahsa Amini, arrested because her veil did not cover all her hair and died a few days later. Since then, Iranian women have reproduced it and challenged the power that oppresses them.
