In Lille, people have already prepared the rooms, ready to receive Ukrainians fleeing their country. The city says it is prepared to collect nearly 1,600 of them.

For six days, the television has remained on in the face of this war, which leaves this Lille woman powerless. So for the first time in her life, she decided to welcome refugees. “I never had the idea to do it but it’s just obvious. You can’t watch TV all day and just tell yourself that it doesn’t matter”, explains Barbara Ozuch, volunteer at the reception of Ukrainian refugees. A room is already ready. The town hall of Lille lists all the inhabitants ready to open their doors to Ukrainians.

A few kilometers further, in Lesquin (North), Sandrine Leroi is also preparing extra beds. The plight of the Ukrainians touched her deeply: “I told myself that if we were at war, we would like to be welcomed by another country that would hold our hand, offer us a roof and food”. In the Lille metropolis, the inhabitants say they are ready to welcome 1,600 Ukrainian refugees.
