The French recognize that they have difficulties in mathematics and do not like this subject. However, the calculations can be used in many fields and jobs of tomorrow.
The French are angry with mathematics. “Maths was my weak part”, recognizes a woman. Many think that maths is useless and get angry at not understanding this subject. France is a land of mathematicians but the level at school remains mediocre. A teacher decides to rap maths in order to interest young people. “It’s not the magic solution either to understand everything, but after that it’s true that it can help some”explains Antoine Carrier, professor of mathematics at the Dupaty college in Blanquefort (Gironde).
Some specialists ask to note, not only the result, but also the path to arrive at an answer. “Our societies are increasingly based on digital systems, so IT plays a role. Who says IT says mathematics”, according to Martin Andler, Emeritus Professor of Mathematics at the University of Versailles (Yvelines).
