French medal chances in boxing and taekwondo, decisive matches in handball, volleyball and basketball… Follow the Olympic day

Twelfth day of competition at the Paris Olympic Games. This Wednesday, August 7, will be punctuated by team sports: we will follow the volleyball semi-final against Italy and the handball and basketball quarter-finals, both against Germany (again). In athletics, French medal hopefuls Cyréna Samba-Mayela (100 m hurdles) and Gabriel Tual (800 m) will enter the fray in the morning at the Stade de France. In the evening, Sofiane Oumiha (-63.5 kg) will aim for gold in boxing. Follow our live coverage.

Hopes in athletics and gold hoped for in boxing… The program for the day. We start with athletics and the heats of Cyréna Samba-Mayela (100 m hurdles, from 10:15) and Gabriel Tual (800 m, from 11:55), who represent a chance of a medal. At 3:00 p.m., France led by the Lebrun brothers will face Brazil in the quarterfinals of the table tennis team tournament. Two French women (Ninon Chapelle and Marie-Julie Bonnin) will also be in the pole vault final, at 6:15 p.m., while Raphaël Mohamed, Wilhem Belocian, Sasha Zhoya will compete in the semifinals of the 110 m hurdles from 7:13 p.m. Boxer Sofiane Oumiha (-63.5 kg) will play for gold at 10:34 p.m., while Djamili-Dini Aboudou Moindze will compete in a semifinal (10:18 p.m., +92 kg). A medal is also expected in the women’s team pursuit (from 7 p.m.). The day’s program is here, and the full Olympic calendar is here.

Team sports (still) in the spotlight? Big schedule in Paris for basketball and volleyball and in Lille for handball. From 1:30 p.m., the handball players, defending champions, will try to push aside Germany in the quarter-finals, which France will also face in women’s basketball, again for a place in the semi-finals. The French volleyball players will play a fiery France-Italy (8 p.m.) for a place in the final, three years after their title in Tokyo.

A first day without a medal on Tuesday. For the first time since the start of these Olympics, the French delegation did not win any medals on Tuesday. Julien Epaillard finished fourth in the show jumping final in equestrian, the French men’s speed team also finished just off the podium in track cycling, and Alice Finot, despite a superb European record, also missed out on a medal by a narrow place.
