Yann Galut, mayor of Bourges (Cher), will not lower the flags after the death of Elizabeth II, indicates France Bleu Berry on Sunday September 11. The proposal, made by Emmanuel Macron after the death of Elizabeth II, was relayed by the Prime Minister in a letter addressed to the mayors. “This request seems incredible to me”he wrote on his Twitter account. “I respect the pain of our English friends but I will not put the French flags on the pediment of the municipal buildings of the city of Bourges”continues the mayor of Bourges.

Patrick Proisy, the LFI mayor of the town of Faches-Thumesnil near Lille (North), also refused to lower the flags after the death of the queen. Patrick Proisy did not join the tributes and did not take part in the ceremonies organized in recent days to salute the exceptional longevity of the British monarch. “I will not apply the order of Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne to lower the flags in the municipality of Faches-Thumesnil. Is this done for all the heads of state who die? Does our Republic make the preference for a monarch, head of a Church?”he asked.

A highly criticized position on social networks where the two elected officials announced their decision. “How do you want to be logical by putting flags on our schools at half-mast where the motto is inscribed: “Liberty, equality, fraternity”? No concept is further from “equality” than that of the monarchy”replied Patrick Proisy. “I have not disrespected anyone, made no joke about the death of a human being; unlike the dishonest who reproach me for a possible lack of respect … by insulting me”he added.
