Canadian striker Jonathan David scored twice against Troyes, making him the first foreign player to reach 40 goals with Lille in the French Ligue 1.
The Ottawa soccer player, who turned 23e anniversary on Saturday, allowed Lille to crush Troyes 5-1 on Sunday.
David jumped on a throw return in the slot in the 46the minute to put his name on the score sheet, before redirecting with a header a cross pass from Rémy Cabella at the back of the Troyes cage in the 87the. This net also allowed him to reach the plateau of 40 goals in 94 games.
David, who has 12 goals this season, is tied with Lorient’s Terem Moffi for second in Ligue 1 goalscoring behind Kylian Mbappé (13). Moreover, David hit the target once more than Brazilian star striker Neymar, who plays for Paris–Saint-Germain.
And if you add his four assists this season, David has joined Mbappé in the exclusive group of players who have been involved in at least 15 goals in each of the last three campaigns. Persistent rumors also send the Lille striker to a more prestigious club.
Lille (10-5-4) is currently sixth in the Ligue 1 standings.
