The president of Puy du Fou wrote and imagined a show for the Chinese public. The story immerses the audience in Shanghai in the 1930s.

The new Puy du Fou performance hall is a huge building located in the heart of Shanghai (China). The audience wanders among the actors and goes from one scene to another. Far from Vendée, the show, in Chinese, depicts Shanghai in the 1930s. It was written and directed by a Frenchman, the boss of Puy du Fou. During the first performance, Thursday evening, September 26, the audience was silent.

“A Chinese audience that doesn’t speak is a captivated audience”welcomes Nicolas de Villiers, president of Puy du Fou. With score-settling and a romantic conclusion, the story evokes Shanghai’s turbulent past. Puy du Fou hopes to attract 700,000 spectators. For this, 160 actors, who will perform 6 days a week, have been hired. The French know-how of Puy du Fou is exported. If the show becomes a success, a Puy du Fou theme park could open in China.
