Earthquake in the Top 14. Racing 92 announced on Monday September 5 that French international Virimi Vakatawa was banned from competition by the LNR medical commission on Monday September 5. Vakatawa, of Fijian origin, had not appeared on a Racing 92 match sheet since last May. Over the 2021-2022 season, the 30-year-old player played 24 games with his club, for 6 tries scored.

The French international (32 selections), author of ten tries in his career in Blue, was on the last summer tour in Japan with the XV of France, in June, where he had played the two meetings. Particularly saddened by this terrible announcement, Racing 92 gives its full support to Virimi Vakatawa and immediately put in place all the arrangements to support its emblematic player as best as possible in these particularly difficult times.the club said in its press release.

The medical reason has not been disclosed, but the Ile-de-France club will hold a press conference on Tuesday in the presence of the player, its president Jacky Lorenzetti, his coach Laurent Travers and the coach of the France team, Fabien Galthié. In 2019, New Zealand opener Dan Carter, then a Racing 92 player, had seen the NRL medical commission ban him from continuing his career in France, due to a neck problem. He then joined the Japanese club Kobelco Steelers, before returning to the Auckland Blues, then ending his career in February 2021.
