Industry week runs until Sunday, November 28. A week to discover or rediscover the French industrial fabric and dust off its image. This year, priority is given to young people. The young people we are talking about with unemployment at the end of their studies, training problems faced with tens of thousands of vacant jobs in companies. The return of the meeting, canceled last year with the pandemic, is an opportunity to put the package on the number one problem: employment to restart the machine, at the time of the reconquest of territories and reindustrialisation of France.

This 2021 edition of the industry week is placed under the sign of the environment and the “sustainable future”. First of all, from the point of view of ecological transition, also in the sense of rebuilding an entire industry hit hard in particular by supply problems, raw materials, electronic components, etc. Hubert Mongon, the general delegate of the‘Union of Metallurgical Industries and Trades (UIMM), which represents the metallurgy trades, believes that the industry is at a pivotal moment and that it cannot afford to miss the boat.

The objective pursued by both industrialists and the government is to recruit 70,000 young people. Guide these future recruits towards 70,000 currently unfilled jobs. It should be noted that the metalworking trades alone represent half of the positions to be filled in the industry. The territories play a key role in this attractiveness with dedicated local policies. Then, you have to show what a business is, open it to the outside world because its image is not always well received. And then encourage the various possibilities of approaching trades. In addition to learning, the principle of mentoring is gaining ground. It is about the accompaniment of a young person of less than thirty years by an experienced person. It is through all these initiatives and many others that the industry sets out to win back.
