Louis Arnaud returned to French soil on Thursday June 13, after being held hostage for twenty months in Iran. He was accused of having participated in a prohibited demonstration.

After twenty months of detention in Iran, Louis Arnaud reunited with his family on Thursday June 13. “He is quite thin, he is quite shocked. He is extremely moved, dazed to find himself outside his walls,” confides Sylvie Arnaud, her mother. In Montceau-les-Mines (Saône-et-Loire), where his family lives, there is total surprise among the residents, who are rejoicing. In September 2022, Louis Arnaud traveled around the world, but he was arrested in Iran. The authorities accuse him of having participated in a banned demonstration.

He finds himself locked up, deprived of care, psychological torture, according to his lawyer, Me Martin Pradel. The other French people detained in Iran are two men and a woman; Cécile Kohler, also arrested in 2022 while visiting Iran. His sister denounces his conditions of detention. “She is in a 9 m² cell which she shares with several other women (…) We know that she is only allowed to leave this cell three times per week”explains Noémie Kohler.
