The French army is gradually withdrawing from the Sahel. This is the case in Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso, where thousands of demonstrators celebrated, on Friday September 29, the first year in power of a military junta hostile to French forces.

Some Russian flags were also present. The Kremlin has moved closer to power since the withdrawal of French troops at the start of the year. In the region, hostility towards French forces is growing. After Mali and Burkina Faso, they will have to leave Niger, as demanded by the power in place since the coup d’état of July 26. Their withdrawal should take place by Christmas. The French Minister of the Armed Forces, Sébastien Lecornu, assures us that this is not a failure for France and believes in an interview with Le Parisien that “the Sahel risks collapsing on itself“.
