Netflix is ramping up its offerings ahead of the holiday season, announcing a host of new releases for November, following the successful fourth season of *Emily in Paris* and the surprise hit *The Accident*. The platform features popular series such as *Beauty In Black* and *La diplomate*, alongside highly anticipated new seasons of *Outer Banks*, *Cobra Kai*, and *Outlander*. Additionally, the critically acclaimed French film *Yannick*, directed by Quentin Dupieux, will soon be available, bringing attention to the filmmaker’s upcoming work amidst awards nominations.
Following the anticipated success of season 4 of the series Emily in Paris and the surprise hit of the Mexican show The Accident, Netflix is ramping up its offerings as the holiday season approaches. Last week, it was announced that a wave of new content will arrive in November. The selection is once again substantial, with various platforms like Disney+ and Prime Video engaged in fierce competition to attract as many subscribers as possible with either fresh programming or beloved classics. Currently, Netflix is spotlighting series such as Beauty In Black, Les meurtres zen, and La diplomate. At the same time, films like Time Cut, Loups-garous, and Les Déguns 2 rank high in viewership. However, this leaderboard could soon change.
This month, Netflix is set to release the much-anticipated season 4 of Outer Banks, alongside the sixth season of Cobra Kai and the seventh season of Outlander. In addition to the new titles Senna and The Madness, viewers can also enjoy films like two installments of the beloved French franchise OSS 117 directed by Michel Hazanavicius (starting November 1), Santa & Cie by Alain Chabat (November 17), and the recent drama The Piano Lesson by Malcolm Washington (November 22). But that’s not all!
Nearly Half a Million Moviegoers in Theaters
Netflix has recently added a French film shot in just six days, which received high praise from critics upon its theatrical release last year. Designed as a metafiction, Yannick is the creation of Quentin Dupieux, who was seen this past spring at the Cannes 2024 Film Festival. His film The Second Act, featuring a star-studded cast (Vincent Lindon, Léa Seydoux, Vincent Garrel…), was showcased at the opening of this 77th edition, chaired by Greta Gerwig, out of competition.
Quentin Dupieux had already made waves in 2023 with Yannick. This feature film, which includes performances by Raphaël Quenard, Blanche Gardin, Pio Marmaï, and Sébastien Chassagne, immerses viewers in a hostage situation in a theater, instigated by a night guard named Yannick. Unimpressed by the play titled Le cocu, he decides to pull a gun to compel the actors to perform another play that he will write before their eyes. The tension escalates until authorities arrive, alerted by a spectator who left the theater just before the hostage-taking began.
Will Quentin Dupieux Have His Revenge at the César Awards?
The film Yannick attracted nearly half a million viewers in theaters last year but narrowly missed accolades at the César 2024 ceremony. Raphaël Quenard was nominated for Best Actor, while Pio Marmaï was in the running for Best Supporting Actor. Both ultimately lost out to Arieh Worthalter for his role in Le Procès Goldman and Swann Arlaud for his performance in Anatomie d’une chute. Quentin Dupieux did receive a nomination at the Lumières 2024 for the screenplay of Yannick, and he may have his chance for recognition next year with The Second Act.
The César 2025 ceremony will take place on February 28 at Olympia in Paris, featuring a renowned French actress who will serve as jury president, succeeding Valérie Lemercier. While the list of nominees remains unknown, it’s confirmed that honorary awards will be presented to Julia Roberts and Costa-Gavras.
