The French film Anatomy of a fallPalme d’Or at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, continues its extraordinary journey with numerous nominations for the Césars, the French cinema awards, after having purchased its ticket for the Oscars in Hollywood.
Its director, Justine Triet, and two female filmmakers are also selected for the “best director” category, a year after the controversy arising from the absence of female representation for this distinction at the César.
Anatomy of a fall is, however, beaten by another film by a head, The animal kingdom by Thomas Cailley, in the César nominations. This fantastic film which takes place in the near future, where humans have begun to mutate into animal creatures, garnered 12 nominations on Wednesday, notably for “best film”, “best actor” for Romain Duris and “best direction” .
The day after its five nominations including “best film” and “best direction” on Tuesday at the Oscars, prestigious Hollywood awards, “Anatomy of a Fall”, dissection of the balance of power within a couple of artists, s is qualified in 11 categories for the French Césars.
This performance confirms the success of this 2h32 film, which retraces the trial of a woman accused of having killed her husband, with the couple’s visually impaired boy as the only witness, and which has already enabled Justine Triet to become in Last May, the third female director in history to win the Palme d’Or at Cannes.

The evening will also be a baptism of fire for the new Minister of Culture, Rachida Dati. The Caesar ceremony is often the occasion for political or social demands.
