Their expertise requested. The French Bureau of Investigation and Analysis for Civil Aviation Safety (BEA) announced on Monday, August 12, that it was participating in the investigation into the crash of the Voepass airline plane, which occurred Friday in Brazil and in which 62 people died.
French investigators will support the Brazilian Center for Investigation and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents (Cenipa), as the aircraft involved in the accident was manufactured in France. “Five investigators are on site, accompanied by technical advisers from Airbus”specifies the French civil aviation safety authority in its message posted on X (ex-Twitter)
The plane was a twin-engine aircraft from the Franco-Italian manufacturer ATR (a subsidiary of Airbus and Leonardo), model 72-500, with double propellers, a length of 27 meters and a capacity of 68 passengers. The aircraft was flying from Cascavel, in the state of Parana, to Guarulhos International Airport in Sao Paulo. After a sudden fall, it crashed in Vinhedo, a town of 76,000 inhabitants located some 80 kilometers northwest of Sao Paulo. Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva declared three days of national mourning after this “tragic accident”.
