French artists at the top of the best-selling albums in France in 2023

In France in 2023, it is the projects of French artists that the public has received the most support from, all styles of music and all generations combined. Of the 20 best-selling albums, 17 are produced in France. Thus, 145 French productions are classified in the 200 best sales of the year, or almost three quarters. A phenomenon that has been confirmed for around ten years.

Emerging artists are doing well with 23 first albums produced in France in the Top 200. The artist Tiakola even ranks directly in 4th position with his album Mélo.

Female artists on the rise

In the ranking, 29 artists include two or more albums. Rapper Jul alone has eight projects there. Three albums in the ranking for Werenoi, Gazo, Grand Corps Malade, Johnny Hallyday, Taylor Swift and The Weeknd.

The position of female artists is progressing slightly. If Aya Nakamura is the only female artist present in the first 20 places in the ranking, across the entire Top 200 the performances of women are encouraging and progress compared to last year, with 36 projects classified (+7), including more than half are produced in France (57%).

The artists Zaho de Sagazan, Mentissa, Ronisia and Nej are particularly successful for their first albums. The Top 200 streaming remains very masculine. It is nevertheless dominated by Miley Cyrus, nº1 with flowers. Ayra Starr, Aya Nakamura and Louane also appear in the top 20 places.

Rap, hip-hop and R&B outrageously dominate

At the top of the Top 200, rap, hip-Hop and R&B music in all their diversity continues to occupy the top of the bill, confirming the domination of these scenes in France, as in the rest of the world. On the Top 20 alone: ​​Werenoi, Hamza, Ninho, Tiakola, SDM, JUL (with 2 projects), Djadja & Dinaz, Gazo, Lomepal, Orelsan, Aya Nakamura, Zola and PLK are at the top of the best scores of the year.

Always present across all generations, French song and pop artists enjoy undeniable popular success: Florent Pagny, Vianney, Indochine, Christophe Maé, Claudio Capéo, Angèle, Clara Luciani, Johnny Halliday, Pierre de Maere , Mylène Farmer, Calogero and Jain were among many others there.
