Freezing rain starting Tuesday evening in certain regions of Quebec

(Montreal) Certain areas of Abitibi-Témiscamingue were subject to a freezing rain warning Tuesday morning for the evening as well as for the night and morning of Wednesday.

Environment Canada predicted that the sectors near the border separating Quebec and Ontario would be the most affected, notably those of Kirkland Lake in Ontario and Rouyn-Noranda, but that freezing rain was also expected in Val-d’Or , in Amos and La Sarre.

The federal agency warned that road conditions could be difficult and surfaces such as roads, streets, sidewalks and parking lots will become icy, slippery and dangerous.

Environment Canada said a freezing rain warning is issued when rain falls while temperatures are below freezing, causing accumulations of ice.

Special weather forecasts were sent for other regions of Quebec which should in turn receive freezing rain from Wednesday evening to Thursday morning. Mauricie as well as the cities of Drummondville, Victoriaville, Quebec, Saint-Georges and Montmagny should be affected.

Meteorologists say these areas in turn should expect slippery road conditions due to icy conditions on the roadways.
