Freestyle Skiing World Cup | Mikaël Kingsbury third in parallel moguls

(L’Alpe d’Huez) Quebecer Mikaël Kingsbury finished third in the parallel moguls at the Freestyle Skiing World Cup on Saturday.


The skier from Deux-Montagnes was looking for a fourth victory in a row, after obtaining bronze to start the season.

Kingsbury defeated Louis-David Chalifoux of Quebec in the small final.

The latter obtained the best result of his career, eclipsing a sixth position signed last weekend in Idre Fjall, Sweden.

Fifth place went to Julien Viel, also from Quebec.

Chalifoux went off the track shortly after the first jump and Kingsbury made his way to a 120e World Cup podium.

Walter Wallberg defeated Kingsbury in the semi-final before winning against another Swede, Rasmus Stegfelt.

Gabriel Dufresne (ninth), Samuel Goodison (14e), Sam Cordell (18e) and Elliot Vaillancourt (29e) also represented Canada.

On Friday, Kingsbury prevailed in the moguls against Vaillancourt, whose first World Cup podium

Olympic champion in 2018 in PyeongChang, Kingsbury has 10 World Cup titles in moguls, including three doubles in moguls and dual moguls.

Kingsbury begins his 15e season at the World Cup. At 31, he is the oldest on the men’s side.

On the women’s side, Maia Schwinghammer achieved the best Canadian result, eighth.

Toronto’s Berkley Brown finished 10eor 10 ranks higher than Laurianne Desmarais-Gilbert, from Saint-Adèle.

Victory went to Australian Jakara Anthony, with the podium completed by Americans Olivia Giacco and Alli Macuga.

On December 22 and 23, there will be events in Bakuriani, Georgia.

Val Saint-Côme, in Lanaudière, will host events on January 19 and 20.
