Freestyle skiing | Mikaël Kingsbury triumphs at Tremblant

(Mont-Tremblant) Thanks to better performances from one section of the competition to the next, Quebecer Mikaël Kingsbury won the second stage of the moguls event of the Freestyle Skiing World Cup at Tremblant, Saturday after- midday.






In the super final, Kingsbury scored 85.59 and edged Sweden’s Walter Wallberg (82.66) by almost three points.

After dominating the qualifying round and Final 1 with scores of 82.71 and 85.19 respectively, Japan’s Ikuma Horishima had to settle for a score of 78.78 in the super final. He still finished third.

During these two stages, Kingsbury had obtained scores of 81.98 and 84.02 to finish each time second behind the Japanese.

The podium on Saturday is also exactly the same as that of the competition presented on Friday.

On the women’s side, France’s Perrine Laffont dominated the competition from start to finish and won the gold medal with a score of 82.55 in the super final. She edged Australia’s Jakara Anthony (79.02) and Japan’s Anri Kawamura (78.78).

Quebecers Chloé and Justine Dufour-Lapointe failed to carve out a place in the super final.

In Final 1, Chloé and Justine obtained scores of 76.83 and 75.73 points respectively. These performances left them in 9e and in 11e places.

This final stop at Tremblant and the two competitions scheduled for next week in Deer Valley are the last opportunities for Canadian hardworkers to qualify for the Beijing Olympics, which will be held February 4-20.
