Mikaël Kingsbury started his season on the World Cup circuit doing what he does best: winning.
The Quebecer hurtled down his favorite track, that of Ruka, in Finland, as only he can do. After finishing first in qualifying and in the final, he was the first to go for the super-final. His near-perfect execution, combined with excellent speed, earned him 84.50 points.
That’s not all: Kingsbury edged his closest pursuer and his main rival on the circuit, the Japanese Ikuma Hiroshima, by more than four points (80.48), which is considerable.
Australian Matt Graham finished third with 80.12 points.
After the victory, Kingsbury raised his arms in the air before hugging his two opponents. The pride of Deux-Montagnes was cause for celebration, especially since his parents accompanied him to Finland. This is her 105e podium and its 75e World Cup victory.
More details to come.
