Freestyle skiing | Marion Thénault at the foot of the podium in jumps in Ruka

(Ruka) Marion Thénault came close to the podium in aerials at the Freestyle Skiing World Cup in Ruka, Finland on Saturday.



Thénault of Sherbrooke had 94.82 points in the super-final after performing a double jump with three twists, including a double twist on the second jump.

The 21-year-old Quebecer, a former gymnast, conceded only 3.46 points to third-place holder, Chinese Xu Mengtao.

The event was won by Australia’s Danielle Scott with a score of 102.93 points, ahead of compatriot Laura Peel at 99.37.

The compatriots of Thénault, Flavie Aumond, Naomy Boudreau-Guertin and Justine Ally resulted in the 14e 27e and 29e rungs, respectively.

On the men’s side, the competition was won by Russian Maxim Burov, who scored 133.03 points.

The Swiss Noé Roth (128.51) and Pirmin Werner (128.50) occupied the other two steps of the podium, in order.

Canada’s top jumper was 17-year-old Alexandre Duchaine of Quebec City under his 18e place with 111.54 points.
