Freestyle Skiing | Canada takes bronze in aerials

(Zhangjiakou) Canada won the bronze medal in the freestyle skiing mixed team jumping grand final of the Beijing Olympics on Thursday at Genting Snow Park.

The Canadian team composed of Marion Thénault (62.74), Miha Fontaine (116.48) and Lewis Irving (111.76) concluded Final 2 with a cumulative score of 290.98 points.

The United States won the gold medal with a grand total of 338.34 points, ahead of China (324.22). Switzerland (276.01) took fourth place.

In Final 1, Canada also placed third with a cumulative score of 326.94 points. China (336.89) finished first ahead of the United States (330.55). Switzerland was ranked fourth.

The Russian Olympic Committee and Belarus were eliminated after Final 1.

The teams occupying the first four positions among the six entered in the competition advanced to Final 2.

This discipline is presented at the Olympics for the first time, but it has been part of the World Cup program since 2014-15. In 2019, she made her appearance at the World Championships.

Each team is made up of three skiers with at least one male and one female. The exact composition is left to the appreciation of each nation which can choose to have two women and one man or the reverse. The scores achieved by each skier are added together and the team with the highest total wins.
