“I have recently received reports that at least three CANSOFCOM members have in one way or another supported the protests that are currently taking place in Ottawa,” said Major General Steve Boivin, Commander Canadian Forces. Special Operations Canada, by press release Sunday.
A first case was reported on 1er February and a second on February 10. The process to expel these two soldiers is already underway, said General Boivin, stressing that “a unit disciplinary investigation including this allegation has been initiated by the chain of command”.
As for the third soldier under investigation, it would not be a member of the special forces, it was added
“If these allegations are true, it is inappropriate and goes against the values and ethics of the CAF,” said General Boivin.
“Canadian Special Operations Forces Command (CANSOFCOM) does not tolerate its members supporting or actively participating in causes that may jeopardize the apolitical nature necessary for their duties. I expect our members to embody the values and ethical principles of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), both on and off the job,” he said.
