“Freedom Convoy” | Tamara Lich and Chris Barber’s trial set for fall 2023

(OTTAWA) Two of the top organizers of the “Freedom Convoy,” Tamara Lich and Chris Barber, are set to stand trial in September 2023 on charges related to the massive protest that paralyzed downtown Ottawa earlier this year.

Posted at 12:41 p.m.

Protesters blocked roads with large trucks and other vehicles for three weeks as the federal capital fell into what many officials described as a state of “anarchy”.

Both Tamara Lich and Chris Barber were arrested the day before hundreds of police in tactical gear moved in to clear protesters from the roads around Parliament Hill in February.

The two were jointly charged with mischief, obstructing the police, counseling others to commit mischief, and intimidation.

The trial is expected to start in early September next year and last around 16 days.

Tamara Lich and Chris Barber were released on bail with strict instructions not to communicate with each other or other convoy organizers except under the supervision of their attorneys.
