Fredz wins Discovery Award in songwriting

(Montreal) Quebec singer-songwriter Fredz received the Songwriting Discovery Award from the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame (CSHF) and Amazon Music on Thursday.


The 22-year-old rapper, who rose to fame in particular with his success The stadiumwas recognized for “his outstanding achievements in songwriting” early in his career and “as an emerging star in the Canadian music scene,” a statement said.

Fredz is the French-speaking winner of the award, while Toronto artist Aaron Paris is the English-speaking winner. The two winners were chosen from 26 candidates.

Fredz was notably in competition against Jay Scott, P’tit Béliveau and Thierry Larose.

Both winners will receive their awards at the 2024 Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame induction ceremony on September 28 at Massey Hall in Toronto.

“I am truly humbled by this award, and most importantly, deeply grateful to those who believe in me and support my work. It means the world to me,” Fredz said in a statement.

Fredz follows in the footsteps of several young Quebec artists who have won this award, including Lou-Adriane Cassidy, Ariane Roy, Les Louanges and Charlotte Cardin.

Despite his young age, the rapper already has four albums to his credit, including his latest released this year, Tomorrow it will be nice. His song The stadiumtaken from this album, is his most popular on the online listening platform Spotify with more than 11 million streams.
