The love that Frédéric Beigbeder has for his wife, Lara Micheli, is immeasurable. Completely under the spell of the young Swiss model, the 56-year-old writer likes to shout his love for her. On the occasion of a recent interview with the cultural magazine Defector, in their edition of January 1, 2022, the former literary critic and director of 56 years returned to his current love story.
Now far from his image of a party animal, Frédéric Beigbeder first of all poured out his old way of life: “I went out every night, I had a crazy rhythm. I honestly thought that I would live like this, like crazy until the end of my life“, he first explained, before continuing with hindsight:”I ran out and slammed a lot of money until I didn’t have a lot. (…) I left [de Paris, ndlr] so as not to die at Castel’s“. Because when he was still living in Paris, Laura Smet’s former companion was a frequent user of illicit substances. This sometimes caused him to have dark thoughts:”I’m not suicidal, but the thought of suicide may have crossed my mind. In the descent of cocaine for example, I could be very bad.“
If she left me I would be devastated
Fortunately in 2014, his union in the Bahamas with Lara Micheli really turned his whole life upside down. At his side, the French director was able to get rid of his previous vices in favor of a real family life. And after more than seven years of marriage and two wonderful births: that of Oona in 2015 and that of Leonardo in 2018, Frédéric Beigbeder is in love as on the first day. “It’s very simple, Lara saved my life. There is real love between us“, he explained to our colleagues from Defector. A love so strong that the TV host cannot imagine being separated from his beloved. “I love Lara. If she left me I would be devastated“, he concluded.
