While waiting for the follow-up to his amazing first album, Dreamweaver (2020), Oji-Cree singer-songwriter Anachnid sets us on a path with Freak of Nature, a mini-album affirming his thirst for sound experimentation. The winner of the Félix for Indigenous Artist of the Year in 2021 sought the help of composer and director Emmanuel Alias and multi-instrumentalist Jérémie Essiambre (La Faune) to conceive this electro, dense, gothic and richly orchestrated project. using acoustic instruments, piano, guitars, glockenspiel and traditional drums. The project opens on Warwhich seems suspended in time, atmospheric and cinematic, the hazy voice of Anachnid hovering over an electronic bass line, and ends with the complex III, between ambient and dubstep. Between the two, the techno momentum Warrior Woman, a succession of rhythmic waves playing the game of rising tension and releasing — the least interesting of the three. In show on November 19 in Quebec, on the 26 in Montreal.
