Fraud of the “false representative” type | Laval police are looking for a suspect

The Laval Police Service (SPL) is looking for an alleged fraudster. The young woman allegedly claimed to be a police officer and was linked to several “false representative” fraud files targeting the elderly.

According to investigators from the SPL General Crimes Squad, this scheme has been identified in nearly a dozen files since June 2022.

During the fraud attempt, a first suspect telephones the victims on their residential line posing as an employee or an investigator of a financial institution. He then explains that they would have been victims of fraud on their bank card and obtain the personal identification number (PIN) of their cards. They are then asked to deposit these in an envelope and they are told that the investigator responsible for their fraud file is called Jean Melançon.

“The targeted victims reside mainly in centers for the elderly”, underlines the police force.
