Five people were indicted on Saturday February 18 in Paris. They were able to capture all the data from your phone on the street using ultra-sophisticated tools.

The story begins with a banal traffic check. The gendarmes discover inside a vehicle, a strange device. They first think of an explosive device. In reality, it is an ultra-powerful wave transmitter, a imsi catcher, a technology usually used by intelligence services and the fight against organized crime. Installed on board a car traveling in very busy areas, the device intercepts the waves emitted by all the mobile phones of passers-by.

A “large-scale scam”

The thugs thus recover the numbers and personal data of passers-by, which then allows them to send a text message to all these people with a fraudulent link. “It’s a large-scale scam method, it’s still more than 420,000 customers, potential victims who have been charged in one year”describes General Marc Boget, commander of the gendarmerie in cyberspace. When driving, the vehicle equipped with the device thus sends a fraudulent SMS in real time, like health insurance, on which users are asked to enter their data.
