This double album brings together for the first time in a discographic publication works 956 and 957 from the Deutsch catalog. It’s Schubert at the end of the road, Schubert that we sometimes have the impression of hearing bloodless or after a drip. So it is In der Ferne by Julian Prégardien and Martin Helmchen in Schwanengesang or barely palpable sounds in the 2e movement of Quintet. Interpretation is like a family affair. Christian Tetzlaff, Florian Donderer, Rachel Roberts, Tanja Tetzlaff, Marie-Elisabeth Hecker are the performers of this incredible Quintet haggard, inhabited by a dull panic. A brother and a sister, while Hecker, the second cellist, is the wife of the pianist who accompanies the tenor of the first disc. Death is here everywhere, through the death of sounds. What a science of their extinction on the part of the singer, the pianist, the bows. As with other “pandemic” releases, we go far beyond the disc to enter a sort of almost mystical ceremony.
