The Félix-Leclerc song prize was awarded on Saturday evening to Lou-Adriane Cassidy, at the end of a supercharged performance of the show The King, the Rose and the Lou[p] as part of the Francos of Montreal.
The singer-songwriter had a total surprise when her two accomplices on stage, Thierry Larose and Ariane Roy, made the announcement to her, just before they began their theme song at the end of the show. “I can’t find the words,” she said, visibly also very moved by this first packed MTelus which stirred up the crowd.
Since 1996, the Félix-Leclerc prize has aimed to “stimulate creation” among young singer-songwriters. Artists like Klô Pelgag, Karim Ouellet, Hubert Lenoir and Mara Tremblay have received it over the years.
Lou-Adriane Cassidy succeeds… Ariane Roy, who received the prize in 2023, and Thierry Larose, who received it in 2022! It’s what we could call a hat trick for the trio who, from their first show on an outdoor Francos stage two years ago to the epic one on Saturday evening, are currently writing a page in the musical history of Quebec. And if, as Thierry Larose said at the end of the evening, they have created something bigger than themselves, this third prize in three years also testifies to the depth of their individual talents.
There are only a few shows presented at festivals left for The King, the Rose and the Lou[p], who have just released an album recorded in public. Their tour will end at the end of summer.
