(Ottawa) Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will travel to France next Thursday to participate in the Francophonie summit. His Quebec counterpart, François Legault, will precede him by a few days and will travel to France on Tuesday to carry out a bilateral mission before joining the Francophonie summit.
The 19e meeting of French-speaking countries, which takes place every two years, will be held on October 4 and 5 in Villers-Cotterêts and Paris, with the theme: “Create, innovate and undertake in French”.
The Prime Minister’s Office said Mr. Trudeau will work with other heads of state to advance shared priorities, including democracy and human rights.
Mr. Legault’s office, for its part, announced that Quebec “will place particular emphasis on promising areas such as the discoverability of French-speaking content online, the economy, innovation and youth. »
Representatives from Ontario, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia will also be present at the meetings.
Leaders are also expected to make a decision on applications for membership in the Organization Internationale de la Francophonie, including Nova Scotia’s request for observer status.
Before the summit, François Legault will continue the meetings of the 1er to October 3, as part of its mission, with the aim of increasing trade and strengthening links between businesses on both sides of the Atlantic.
