The rallying to the National Rally of the former director of Frontex Fabrice Leggeri is due to a certain “opportunism”, denounces Tuesday February 20 on France Inter François-Xavier Bellamy, MEP and head of the Republican list in the European elections in June. On Sunday, Fabrice Leggeri announced that he was in third position on Jordan Bardella’s list in the columns of the Journal du Dimanche. François-Xavier Bellamy judges this choice “surprising”. The MEP sees it this way “a form of opportunism, just as some people go to macronism because it seems to have the wind in its sails.”

But François-Xavier Bellamy considers above all that this rallying demonstrates “a very big inconsistency” from the National Rally. He recalls that the far-right party “continued to criticize the Frontex agency when Fabrice Leggeri was its director”. “In 2019, at the time of [dernières] European elections, Jordan Bardella declared that Frontex was a reception agency for migrants”, adds the MEP. He also notes that the RN MEP has “refused, with his delegation, all the budget increases requested by the Frontex agency in recent years.” For François-Xavier Bellamy, this is therefore a “new contradiction of the National Rally on European subjects”.

The head of the list Les Républicains rather highlights “perseverance” And “The constancy” of his party. François-Xavier Bellamy maintains that the LR party “is a family that refused to compromise, to lower its flag and which continues to defend its colors.” “This is what makes the difference between the right and these political groups which seem to practice a form of opportunism as a political doctrine”he insists.
