François Legault says he is ready to untie the purse strings to fulfill his promise to ban the exploitation of hydrocarbons in Quebec. But the Prime Minister does not know how much it will cost.
Mr. Legault gave Wednesday morning a first scrum since his prorogation speech, delivered the day before. Asked about his intentions to get Quebec out of gas and oil extraction, he agreed that the operation would come with consequences.
“We are ready to put financial and legal resources,” he said directly from the National Assembly.
The elected representative of the Coalition futur Quebec does not advance on the sums he intends to spend to initiate this transition. Several industrialists joined by The duty in recent weeks estimate these amounts to several hundreds of millions of dollars, even billions.

According to an analysis by the Quebec Environmental Law Center produced earlier this year, the government could legislate in such a way as to avoid spending a penny.
