François Legault questions the usefulness of the Bloc Québécois

(Quebec) Stung during the question period by PQ leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondon on the subject of temporary immigration, Prime Minister François Legault questioned the usefulness of the Bloc Québécois in the House of Commons.

“What is the purpose of the Bloc Québécois in Ottawa? It’s used for ? It’s used for ? “, thundered the Prime Minister during question period on Tuesday.

Mr. Legault raised this question by responding to the PQ leader who accused him of doing nothing on the issue of temporary immigration. “Does the Prime Minister recognize that the CAQ’s immigration policy is a disaster in terms of French which is unprecedented in the history of Quebec? » asked the leader of the Parti Québécois (PQ).

François Legault said it was “unfortunate” that Paul St-Pierre Plamondon was playing “politics on an issue that is crucial for the future of our nation.”

“What I am asking the leader of the Parti Québécois is to work with me, to convince the federal government. Because the culprit is not the head of the CAQ, it is the federal Liberal government,” said the Prime Minister.

It was then that he said: “Besides, I feel like asking him: “What is the point of the Bloc Québécois in Ottawa?” »

The Prime Minister made this statement a few hours after four of his ministers asked that the federal government reimburse the costs associated with welcoming asylum seekers, which Quebec estimates at one billion.

Shortly after, the Bloc Québécois shared a petition on the social network X, asking the federal government to reimburse Quebec.

Remember that François Legault called for voting for the federal Conservative Party in 2021. He has not reiterated this support since Pierre Poilievre became head of the political party.

“The Bloc Québécois is an independence political party, established exclusively in Quebec. Its presence in the House of Commons ensures legitimacy and concordance between the vision of a people and that of its elected representatives on the federal scene. The Bloc Québécois affirms the existence of the Quebec nation, demands its recognition and defends the interests of its citizens as well as their right to freely choose their future,” we can read on the party’s website.
