(Rimouski) In Rimouski for his party’s pre-sessional caucus, François Legault promised Wednesday evening to develop the wind sector more aggressively.
The Prime Minister shared his vision for the Bas-Saint-Laurent and Gaspésie during a cocktail at the Hôtel Rimouski in the presence of CAQ elected officials, their political staff and a few supporters.
“27% of wind power in Quebec is here,” he said. “I have nothing against doubling that capacity. […] I cannot imagine a more beautiful social project for our young people.”
The speech delivered by Premier Legault focused almost exclusively on energy, as he prepares to appoint a new minister to replace Pierre Fitzgibbon, who has left political life.
Mr. Legault was particularly reassuring: thanks to the former prime ministers who were “visionaries”, “in the residential sector, there is no need to worry for the next 50 years, we have enough electricity.”
“Today, the opportunity we have is to be visionary in our turn and to develop, among other things, wind power, which is a clean energy,” he continued.
If the transmission lines are full, “we will build other transmission lines,” he promised, while welcoming “the social acceptability of wind power in the Bas-Saint-Laurent and Gaspésie.”
According to Mr. Legault, “in the next 10, 20, 30 years, companies will fight to have clean energy and will be ready to pay a high price.”
“This means that in the coming years we can develop wind power on a mass scale and then resell it at a profit. […] “It’s an extraordinary opportunity for the Bas-Saint-Laurent and the Gaspé, among others,” he proclaimed.
