François Legault has COVID-19

Prime Minister François Legault has contracted COVID-19 and will have to go into isolation for the next five days.

According to our information, the Prime Minister felt the first symptoms during the trip from Quebec to Montreal, Thursday, after question period in the National Assembly.

“These are symptoms similar to a cold,” says its director of media relations, Manuel Dionne.

A quick test came back positive and the Prime Minister announced on Twitter early in the evening that he was in solitary confinement, although he assures us that he feels “good”.

“I will continue to work remotely for the next 5 days, in accordance with public health guidelines,” wrote François Legault.

“We see it with the rise in cases lately: the virus is present in Quebec. Let’s continue to be careful. We will get through this together!”

No other cases

For the moment, the CAQ government is not reporting any other cases of COVID-19 among its ministers.

“We continue to apply the sanitary measures in force”, such as wearing a mask, argues Manuel Dionne.

But the Prime Minister has been in contact with members of his party throughout the week.

Thursday morning, he sat in the Blue Room, where elected officials have again been sitting close to each other since the easing of health measures. However, the mask is still required outside of speeches.

Mr. Legault also chaired his Council of Ministers on Wednesday, before participating in the caucus of his deputies in the evening.
