A direct tackle to his successor. Emmanuel Macron’s refusal to appoint Lucie Castets to Matignon is a “institutional fault”said former President François Hollande in an interview with Point Wednesday, August 28. The socialists must “support everything that can move the country forward”, he assured, however.

“It was not up to the President of the Republic to ‘censor’ Lucie Castets himself,” believes the deputy of Corrèze. “This responsibility falls to the National Assembly after the deputies have been able to listen to the general policy statement and the composition of the government and express their choice”according to him.

A “political error” also, because the rejection of the NFP candidate by the Assembly was certainly “very possible” but would have at the same time given “stronger legitimacy” has “the emergence of an alternative solution”. The options are all the more limited as François Hollande “does not believe in the alliance with the center”which according to him would be “inevitably doomed to a dead end.” But this “must not prevent socialists from supporting anything that can move the country forward”because “The question is no longer only with whom to govern, but for what purpose,” he adds.

In response to this interview, the resigning Minister of Sports, Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, defended “a respectful process” established by the head of state to train “a viable future government”. It is not “in nothing” a mistake not to appoint Lucie Castets to Matignon, she hammered home on franceinfo.
