Third literary prize of the week after the Femina, and the Medici, the Grand Prix du roman was awarded on Thursday, October 28 by the Académie française to François-Henri Désrables, for My master and my conqueror, published in August by Gallimard editions.

The author ofA certain Mr. Pikielny (Gallimard, 2017) do it there subtle story, nourished by literary references, by an unhappy love, inspired by the tumultuous relationship between Verlaine and Rimbaud, against a background of police intrigue.

The ballot was very tight for this prize endowed with an amount of 10,000 euros: François-Henri Désrable obtained, in the third ballot, 10 votes against 9 votes for Gilles Martin-Chauffier. The novel by François-Henri Désrable, which has already sold to nearly 4,000 copies, according to figures from GfK, should see its sales soar with this prestigious award.

The most secret memory of men, by Mohamed Mbougar Sarr, a very noticed novel of this comeback and still in the running for Goncourt and Renaudot, was also one of the finalists.
