The third trial of François Fillon in the case of fictitious jobs at the National Assembly will take place on November 25 before the Paris Court of Appeal, France Bleu Maine learned on Tuesday, October 1, confirming information from West France. The former Prime Minister was found definitively guilty by the Court of Cassation last April, but the court also ordered a new hearing for the sentences handed down against François Fillon and for the payment of damages.
On May 9, 2022, the Paris Court of Appeal sentenced François Fillon to four years in prison, one of which was closed, a fine of 375,000 euros and ten years of ineligibility. This sentence, not confirmed by the Court of Cassation, will have to be redefined by the Paris Court of Appeal.
The Court of Cassation, however, confirmed the sentences handed down in May 2022 against Penelope Fillon and Marc Joulaud, former deputy deputy for François Fillon in Sarthe. Penelope Fillon was sentenced to two years in prison, suspended, as well as a fine of 375,000 euros, and Marc Joulaud, three years in prison, suspended.
Short of recourse in France after going through the Constitutional Council, the Court of Appeal, and the Court of Cassation, the trio seized the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) on August 23 on the question of the partiality of Ms. Houlette, who headed the National Financial Prosecutor’s Office at the time. Spouses Fillon and Marc Joulaud are now waiting to be notified of the judgment rendered by the European Court of Human Rights.
