Our entire healthcare system is at the end of its tether“, declared François Braun, the new Minister of Health, when he took office, Monday, July 4. How is the appointment of the former head of emergencies in Metz received?

An experienced doctor takes the reins of the Ministry of Health, Monday July 4: François Braun, 60 years old and former head of emergencies at the hospital in Metz (Moselle). This doctor has often sounded the alarm about the emergency situation in France. When he took office, he again painted a bleak picture. “The emergency rooms (…) are sick, the public hospital is not well, and our whole health system is out of breath“, he declared. For emergencies, François Braun has just carried out a flash mission, in order to improve its functioning. His 41 proposals have been taken up by the Prime Minister, Elisabeth Borne. Among them, the increased return at 15 to better organize admissions.

His appointment is welcomed by some professionals. “François Braun is a doctor, we could not have hoped for better“, comments Sandrine Charpentier, head of emergencies at the Toulouse University Hospital (Haute-Garonne). Not everyone shares her opinion. “This is very bad news. (…) François Braun is the one who has just recorded the end of the public hospital service, since he validates the closure of emergencies at night“, annoys Christophe Prudhomme, member of the Association of Emergency Physicians of France and Regional Councilor (LFI) of Ile-de-France.
